I graduated from Mount St. Mary’s University with a B.A. in Liberal Arts. I taught for 3 years with the Los Angeles Archdiocese and I have been teaching at Eshelman Ave. for 25 years.

My greatest joy in teaching has been Introducing school to our youngest students. I love watching the student’s self-confidence and mastery of skills grow throughout the year.

Ms. ortiz (K)

  Gabriela Ortiz Teacher

Hi Firebirds,

My name is Ms. Ortiz. I graduated from California State University Dominguez Hills with a B.A. in Liberal Studies and a minor in Spanish. I have a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. I am fluent in Spanish and have a BCLAD certification. I have been teaching for 23 years at Eshelman Elementary. I enjoy teaching and it is very rewarding to see how students grow and take their beginning steps in their education. I first began my career teaching preschool for three years, and I have also taught grades first to fourth grade. One thing I like to instill in my students is that you can achieve your dreams and goals in whatever you put your mind to!

ms. yu (1st)

  Yon Yu Teacher

I am starting my 21st year with LAUSD, 11 years at Eshelman Ave. Elem.   I graduated from UCLA with BA in psychology in 1997. I have a MA in Educational Administration from CSUDH, 2006.

My philosophy on education is that all children are unique and must have a stimulating educational environment so they can grow physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially. It is my desire to create this type of atmosphere where students can meet their full potential. With parent and community support and involvement,  I will provide a safe environment where students are invited to share their ideas and take risks.

I aim to bring an open mind, a positive attitude, and high expectations to the classroom each day.  I will hold each student to the highest expectations.  My goal is to inspire students to find a love of learning, be diligent, cooperative, kind and persevere!

Mrs. Strazzeri (TK/K)

  Nicole Strazzeri Teacher

I graduated from California State University, Los Angeles with my B.A. in Child Development. I am beginning my 26th year as an educator.  This year marks the 21st year teaching for LAUSD at Eshelman Avenue Elementary School.  Eshelman has become my home away from home. I’ve enjoyed the experience that I have gained teaching here at Eshelman.  My goal throughout the year is to work with students and their families to help them grow, and develop a solid foundation that will guide them throughout their school years.

ms. Mcmullen (k)

  Rhonda McMullen Teacher

My name is Rhonda McMullen (formerly known as Miss Wills).

I graduated from Cal State University Dominguez Hills with a BA in education and minor in Art.  I began my career here at Eshelman Avenue School 24 years ago and I love teaching in this community!  I spent 2 years teaching First Grade and the next 22 years in Kindergarten.  I enjoy teaching this grade level and being a part of my student's foundation in education.

I believe that learning can be fun...We sing, we dance and we create! I have high expectations, but believe we learn more from our mistakes and working through them. I believe in creating a safe environment where every child feels comfortable to be who they are, to explore and share their ideas freely. I teach from the heart and will work hard to ensure each student reaches their goals!

I look forward to a great school year!
